First Solar Invested in A New Solar Plant
Nov 19, 2022
First Solar (FSLR.US), the largest U.S. solar panel maker, plans to build a $1.1 billion plant in the U.S. state of Alabama, a major investment in the wake of the passage of a landmark climate law. The plant is expected to be operational in 2025 with an annual component capacity of 3.5 gigawatts.
Southern and Midwestern states have continued to win new solar, battery and electric vehicle investments, and while no Republicans in Congress have supported the climate bill Biden signed into law, Republican-led states like Alabama, Tennessee and Ohio have sought to build clean energy plants.
First Solar said in August it would invest about $1.2 billion to expand production in the United States. The company also announced plans last month to build a $270 million research and development center in Ohio.
