Selection Of Diamond Grinding Wheel

Compared with the grinding wheel made of ordinary abrasive particles such as boron carbide, silicon carbide and corundum, diamond grinding wheel has sharp edge angle, small wear, long service life, high productivity and good processing quality, but it is expensive. Therefore, it is suitable for fine grinding of high hardness, brittle and difficult to process materials such as cemented carbide, ceramics and semiconductors.

The characteristics of diamond grinding wheel include abrasive type, particle size, hardness, concentration, binder, grinding wheel shape and size.

Abrasive: synthetic diamond (Jr) is widely used. It is divided into various models according to its crystal shape and particle strength, and the model is selected according to its specific purpose.

Grain size: it should be comprehensively considered from three aspects: workpiece roughness, grinding productivity and diamond consumption.

Hardness: only resin bonded diamond grinding wheel has the characteristic of "hardness". Generally, grade s (Y1) or higher is adopted.

Binding agent: there are four kinds of commonly used binding agents. Their binding ability and wear resistance are gradually strengthened in the order of resin, ceramic, bronze and electroplated metal. Resin bonded diamond wheel has high grinding efficiency, good workpiece roughness, wide application range, good self sharpening, not easy to block, low calorific value and easy dressing. It is mainly used in fine grinding process. Ceramic bonded diamond grinding wheel is mainly used for grinding various non-metallic hard and brittle materials, cemented carbide, superhard materials, etc.

Concentration: the concentration shall be selected according to the grain size, binder, shape, processing method, production efficiency and service life of the grinding wheel. High concentration diamond grinding wheel has strong ability to maintain the shape of grinding wheel. When grinding with low concentration grinding wheel, the diamond consumption is often lower, which should be selected according to needs.

Shape and size: selected according to the shape, size and machine tool conditions of the workpiece.
