France: Installed PV Capacity Exceeded 15GW

Sep 19, 2022

According to the latest figures from the French Ministry of Ecological Change, cumulative PV installations in France reached 15.1 GW in the first half of this year, of which 14.5 GW was located in mainland France.

New PV systems with a total capacity of 1,098 megawatts were connected to the French grid in the first half of 2022, down sharply from 1,534 megawatts last year, the Ministry of Ecological Change said. About 607 MW of total capacity was commissioned in the first quarter and 491 MW in the second quarter.

It is understood that plants with more than 250 kW account for about 51% of new installed capacity, and PV systems with output less than 9 kW account for 13% of new installed capacity. In the first half of this year, solar power generation reached 9.6 terawatt hours, 32 percent more than in the same period of 2021.

Nouvelle-aquitaine, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Cote D 'Azur accounted for 65% of the total expansion in the first half of 2022. These are the regions with the highest installed capacity, accounting for 66% of the total cumulative installed PV capacity in France at the end of June.
