Italy:Installed PV Capacity Increase

Sep 20, 2022

According to data from Italian renewable energy association ANIE Rinnovabili and grid operator Terna, Italy's installed PV capacity in the first half of 2022 reached 1061MW, a significant increase from 362MW in the same period last year and 267MW in the first half of 2020 and 231MW in 2019. Most of this year's capacity was concentrated in the second quarter, of which 628MW was connected to the Italian grid.

It is reported that almost all of the newly developed 686MW capacity are less than 1MW pv projects; Solar industrial parks larger than 1MW account for only 375MW of the total capacity. Residential PV systems of 20kW and below still account for the largest share, with a capacity of about 426MW; Photovoltaic systems ranging from 20 to 100kW account for 76MW in the total capacity; Commercial and industrial PV installations ranging from 100kW to 1MW reached 184MW in the first half of the year.

Preliminary data showed Italy's solar capacity exceeded 22.4GW at the end of June. Italy's National Climate and Energy Integration aims to achieve 50GW of PV by 2030.
