A practical case tell us the impact of grinding wheel hardness in many aspects
The hardness problem can affect many aspects of the grinding effect, such as grinding immobility, grinding heat, finish, life and so on. There are three problems encountered by customers in the use of grinding wheels: surface, lifetime and vibration.
Firstly, I find out how the customer is using and then we will analyze it.
Grinding wheel used by customers and uses:
Resin bonded diamond wheel, 80# particle size, gray cast iron material.
The customer has used two kinds of grinding wheels, same specification, same particle size, same bond, the only difference is the hardness.

Hard grinding wheel: life is satisfied, poor surface.
Soft grinding wheel: the surface meets the requirements, the lifetime is short, there are vibration marks.
From the above we can draw a conclusion:
The hardness of the grinding wheel also affects the surface
The hardness of grinding wheel affects the service life
The hardness of the grinding wheel can cause vibration marks
Here's the analysis:

The hardness of the grinding wheel is too hard will affect the finish: it is not the softer the finish is better, the answer is no, too hard or too soft will affect the surface finish.
The hardness of the grinding wheel affects the service life: too hard to grind, can't be used at all, too soft crap fast, life must be short.
The hardness of the grinding wheel will lead to vibration marks: too hard will grind immovably, causing vibration, too soft will make the part of the workpiece to contact more sand, resulting in uneven parts of the abrasive layer, causing vibration marks.
Solutions to customers' problems:
The previous hard grinding wheel has good shape preservation and satisfying life, but only the problem of finish, then we can also try to use the previous hard grinding wheel to test and adjust.
Try to adjust the grinding speed , the speed will affect the finish
Use a fine-grained abrasive bond
Our lowest cost solution to the problem is to select the least problematic grinding wheel formula based on previous grinding wheel usage.
