CBN is cubic boron nitride, which was synthesized by general Electric company of the United States in the 1950s using artificial methods under high temperature and high pressure conditions, and its hardness is second only to diamond.

Diamond is the highest hardness of abrasive, natural diamond has high stability, but the price is also high, the diamond used in the manufacturing industry is mostly artificial diamond.

1. Select according to the hardness of the workpiece

General abrasive hardness is 4 times higher than the workpiece hardness, so according to the workpiece hardness can determine which diamond and CBN is more suitable.

2. Choose according to the material of the workpiece

CBN is recommended for iron-containing materials

Diamond is recommended for materials without iron

Because the diamond chemically reacts with the carbon in the iron, increasing the wear rate of the diamond, the abrasive also passivates, reducing the cutting force.

3. Select based on the grinding wheel speed

High temperature will cause fast wear of diamond, so when the grinding wheel speed is high, the temperature will rise, which will cause fast wear of grinding wheel. While CBN belongs to the crushing structure, when the grinding wheel speed is fast, it can play the self-sharpening of abrasive and maintain a certain sharpness.
