Grinding ratio, one of the indicators that affect the efficiency of grinding wheel
Aug 27, 2024
What does the grinding ratio mean?
The grinding ratio is an index that describes the efficiency of the grinding wheel, which refers to the ratio of the volume of the workpiece cut by the grinding wheel to the volume of its own loss. The higher the grinding ratio, the better the performance of the grinding wheel, and the more workpiece can be cut.
The calculation formula of grinding ratio is:
G=Vwc / Vsc
V wc represents the volume of the workpiece cut by the grinding wheel, and Vsc represents the volume of the grinding wheel abrasion itself.

What does the grinding ratio relate to?
The grinding ratio is related to the wear performance of the grinding wheel, hardness, strength, abrasive, bond, shape and size of the grinding wheel.
Hardness: The same grinding wheel, the greater the hardness, the smaller the grinding ratio. Because the hard grinding wheel has a strong grinding ability on the material, the grinding wheel wear is large, and the damage depth of the grinding part is small, the grinding ratio will decrease.
Strength: The influence of the strength of the grinding wheel on the grinding ratio is complicated. The greater the strength, the better the wear resistance and crack resistance of the grinding wheel, the smaller the amount of abrasive loss and the amount of wear of the grinding wheel, and the smaller the grinding ratio. However, if the grinding wheel is too hard or too fragile, too high strength will increase the amount of wear and the grinding ratio will increase.
Abrasive: The type of abrasive of the grinding wheel has a great influence on the grinding ratio. Generally speaking, the coarser the abrasive particle size, the greater the grinding wheel wear, the greater the grinding ratio; On the contrary, the finer the abrasive particle size, the smaller the grinding wheel wear, and the smaller the grinding ratio.
Bond: For the same abrasive, the harder the bond of the grinding wheel, the smaller the wear of the grinding wheel, the smaller the grinding ratio; On the contrary, the grinding ratio is larger.
Shape and size: For different workpieces and grinding wheels, different shapes and sizes of grinding wheels are used in grinding, and the grinding ratio is different. Generally speaking, the inner diameter of the grinding wheel is small, the outer diameter is large, and more materials can be ground, and the grinding ratio will be smaller.
It should be noted that different types of grinding wheels have different grinding ratios, and some wheels may have lower grinding ratios, but they may perform well in specific machining tasks. Therefore, when selecting a grinding wheel, in addition to performance indicators such as grinding ratio, it is also necessary to consider specific processing tasks and carry out an appropriate comprehensive evaluation.
